Tamiami — As part of my AIRIE residency I was invited to travel with the Everglades Foundation out into the river of grass via airboat. This watery land is north of Everglades National Park, just north of Tamiami Trail, and near the Miccosukee Indian Reservation, from which the boat company operated. We traveled through the sawgrass trails to a hammock (island) and back out in a world with 360 degree views of horizons, thin slips of vegetation defining the horizon, and sky reflected in water so the two often merged. I included a quote from Marjory Stoneman Douglas’s "The Everglades: River of Grass" on the reverse side.
