Costa Rica Interlude — When I was asked to accompany a class to Costa Rica, I jumped at the opportunity. The students would be working on their certification for teaching English and I would have free time to write and paint. It was March in Vermont—mud season and a lot of dirty snow—but in Costa Rica the world was green and warm. I was dazzled. Sitting on the steps of the bungalow where we slept, I painted. I painted quickly, with lots of water and green paint, in order to capture the vitality of the vegetation all around me.
