Guatemala — I include this section in order to share photographs I’ve taken since I first traveled to Guatemala. Not surprisingly, each reflects life at a particular point in history and prompts me to recognize changes that I’ve witnessed. At this point, however, I’m not going to include much commentary. Seeing them in this website format is new to me and I want to think more about what I might say. What I have done is start with images from the year I first lived in Guatemala, in the oriente (the eastern part of the country), when I was a volunteer with the Ministry of Agriculture in Jutiapa. That year inspired me to study anthropology and return to Guatemala for field research in the central highlands, in the Maya community of Tecpán Guatemala. Since then I have returned to Tecpán again and again as well as visited other areas of the country.
