Everglades notebooks — For the month-long AIRIE artist residency in Everglades National Park I carried a journal wherever I went and kept abundant visual and written notes. I sat and drew alligators, gars, and herons on the boardwalks that tourists frequented. I carried my notebook with me when I slogged knee-deep in water and silt into cypress domes. And I drew and collected photos on boat trips out into the watery world of sawgrass trails, hammocks, and mangrove-ringed islands. And in the end I brought home notebooks that reminded me of what I learned and inspired me to make artist’s books.
