Vietnam notebooks — As part of a Marlboro College grant to integrate Asian studies into the curriculum, a group of faculty and students traveled to Vietnam. On two occasions we visited national parks where we learned about conservation efforts as well as the role of local communities (in one case advertised as an “eco-village” where tourists could stay and experience rural life). I was particularly interested in the activities carried out in urban and rural parks, both by locals and tourists (both Vietnamese and foreign). These are reflected in the pages of my journals where I noted the landscape, human activities, aspects of the flora and fauna, trash that landed on trails, and conservation efforts.
